Sample courses

 

Martial arts

 

A basic martial arts class designed to give an introduction to the philosophy, training and discipline found in the Japanese martial systems. students will train in basic stances, conditioning exercises blocks and moving techniques. In addition students will learn the formal ways  the courtesy that is inherent in the beginning and ending forms of each class. At the end of the  course students will demonstrate a basic “Kata” form combining all the material covered in the course

 

 

Theatre & Movement

 

This course will explore how theatre is a comprehensive art form that can encompass acting, movement/dance, music, and poetry. Each week we will study and discover a new performance technique and apply it to a scene or short play. Questions bring awareness to how voice, movement, and characterization are choices actors make.  Students explore “how would this character move, and why?” and “How do you move?”  Students sharpen skills in making intentional choices and joyfully learning the freedom of creating worlds. The session culminates in students giving voice and movement to their own words!
